Bought to install Linux and revive a useless 12 year old Windows XP PC . NICE!
By M. Patton
Nvidia readily supports this card. Try to find a decent PCI card for $35.00. This FX-5500 chipset was placed on boards to support a wide variety of formats. I've seen models that support for instance PCI-e and AGP. Nvidia even built a PCI version. If you need a PCI card to revive an older PC that would be front lawn material without Linux, Get This Card. With 256 megs of memory, you can eliminate the cheap onboard Intel graphics chip that steals system memory and now be able to activate all of the Unity and Compiz eye-candy. I installed it on an old HP with 1G of RAM and a 2.0Ghz P4. Linux OZ Unity 1.0 Intro, great for beginners, is very easy to use and an absolute work of art. I turned a piece of junk into a fast, feature filled system for 35 bucks! I want to thank everyone on the Oz Unity 1.0 Intro team. You guys ROCK, Ultimate Edition 3.2 ROCKS and your new 64bit ONYX is phenomenal.Linux is FREE. Micro$oft's OS is just that, a resource intensive, bloated empty shell that, to use it, you first pour money into it buying your favorite applications and resource robbing anti-virus software. It's perfect for the temporarily unenlightened with credit cards that are yet to be max'd out. Wake up people OZ (and Linux in general) needs no anti-virus, is recommend by top experts to resist online banking exploits and is preloaded with all of the software you need with hundreds more, tested and safely stored in repositories (not blood thirsty websites), just for Linux... and FREE! Will also run most of your Window applications using pre-installed Wine(windows emulator).

worthwhile upgrade
By GratedTopping
I wrote a review for this 2.9.2013 and now, on the 10th, I'm updating it. Originally, I gave it just two stars, but now it's a four (would be 3 1/2 if possible). Here's the old review explaining why I didn't like it:Well, I bought this new from a thrift store for a couple bucks for use with an old Dell Dimension 3000.I had difficulty with some settings using the NVIDIA control panel which is present after installation of the video drivers of the card. Under 'Video & television'>'Adjust video color settings', I chose 'With the NVIDIA settings' for the 'How do you make color selections?'This didn't seem to work with playback of video and it was annoying. When I'd start a video WHILE the "NVIDIA control panel" was open, it would have my color settings...but when closed, the video was too-bright and wasn't properly working. It doesn't properly keep my setting and something's messed-up. I researched about this and only found a bunch of people mentioning that they had trouble with the 'gamma' setting being saved properly. It's too-bad that I can't use this well.-------HERE'S MY UPDATE:I read in an article about the "GeForce FX" series: "Also worth of note is that 163.75 is the last known good driver, that correctly handles the adjustment of the video overlay color properties for the "GeForce FX" series. Subsequent WHQL drivers do not handle the whole range of possible video overlay adjustments (169.21) or have no effect on those (175.xx)."I realize that I did notice the stated problem after I downloaded and installed the final release (175.19)....so, I removed it and reinstalled the drivers that came on the CD. It all works fine now.I'm not sure which version/release of the drivers are in use, but there are no problems. Also, I see that in the NVIDIA control panel, there isn't an option asking 'How do you want to make color selections?'. It's all done by the card and you don't get to choose to allow the video-player's color settings be used. Thus, I'm sticking with the card and the drivers that came with the product.I read that this was originally out in 2004. Mine was manufactured in 2007 and the box also stated "3D Fuzion" on it. That company had the rights to sell such graphics boards, obviously. The 5500 was the final of the 5000-line. It uses a standard PCI port (not PCI-express); has a fan that is super-quiet; and definitely helps my 'ancient' machine's performance with more system-memory available and detailed graphics.Remember: an upgrade to the final release of the drivers was ultimately a downgrade for me and I suspect that it would be for others
