By Robert A. Schmidt
I recently purchased an EVGA GTX 660 after reading good reviews about it. I was very impressed with the results, and noticed a massive improvement over my PNY GTX 550 Ti 1GB. I used my GTX 550 Ti for a build I was working on, and was disappointed with the temps I was reaching and the inability to play newer games on higher settings. I enjoy tinkering with stuff a bit and most of the reviews I've read show the new Kepler powered GTX 650 ti is a pretty capable card, so I figured why not give it a shot.First I will point out, this card uses way less power than the Fermi based GTX 550 ti. About 40W less power, which is significant considering theirs also a big boost in performance. Another key advantage is this card is much smaller, about 2.5 inches less in length. It's surprising because the next step up in the GTX 600 series is the 660, and that card is about 2 inches longer than the 550 ti, or nearly 4 inches longer than the 650 ti. This makes the 650 ti ideal for those using small cases as it's small, cool, and uses little power (great for small PSU's in ITX setups). I am using a Silverstone SG04 case with a front mounted radiator for the CPU cooler, so I was limited to cards less than 8 inches long for my case, the 650 ti fit with plenty of room to spare. I think the other advantage this offers is it keeps the rest of the case fairly cool too as air flow is less restricted.I figured rather than talking about differences I noticed, I'd just run a 3D Passmark 11 and let the results speak for themselves.Setup:Silverstone SG04 mATX CaseSilverstone ST50F 500W PSUAsus P8Z77-IIntel Xeon E3 1230 v2Intel Liquid Thermal SolutionG.SKILL 2x8 (16GB) Ares DDR3 1600MHz RAMCrucial M4 SSD 64GB1st Test: PNY GTX 550 Ti 1GB2nd Test EVGA GTX 650 Ti 2GB SSCGTX 550 Ti Scores:E4582 / P2773 / X854GTX 650 Ti:E8067 / P5282 / X1603Frame rates were nearly double vs the 550 ti if not more in every benchmark test on 3D Mark 11. The other important thing to note is that the EVGA GTX 550 Ti 2GB is still about $160. If you're upgrading from a 550ti or 450 GTS, I think this card is definitely worth the price though I would recommend going with the GTX 660 if you can fit it, because that is a significant step up from the 650 ti for only $50 more. The 650 ti walks all over the 550 ti, so if you're planning on buying the 550 ti don't even bother.Pros:FasterCoolerLess PowerSmallerCons:The GTX 650 Ti 2GB SSC is kinda pricy, AMD makes cards nearly as good for quite a bit cheaper, but they're also very large and use a lot of power.

Let me start out by saying, I have owned several video cards, most by EVGA since they are in my opinion the best board partner to NVIDIA. The card I owned previous to installing this one was the GTX 550 Ti 1GB FPB edition by EVGA and honestly never had any issues with it however I had seen in some benchmarks that the 650 Ti nearly doubled its performance and was even smaller in form factor when compared to the 550 Ti. I have tried countless games on my new 650 Ti SSC 1GB, Battlefield 3, Sleeping Dogs, and Max Payne 3, 3 graphic intensive games. It succeeded in all 3 of them on medium settings pushing out a whopping 44-61 FPS. On high I got about 32-47 FPS but keep in mind this board is extremely affordable compared to better performing boards on the market such as the GTX 680 Ti. Even if you are getting 44 FPS minimum on a game like battlefield, you are still getting more FPS than its console version which is capped at 30FPS. Also, Even on Medium, Battlefield 3 looks gorgeous. (Something I could not notice in the 550 Ti), and on High the game is extremely playable still but I personally prefer to play on medium because I like to keep my temperatures low.(also the differences in aesthetics is very minor) This card runs fairly quiet and you would only hear it if you sit right next to it and try to listen for it, if your case is properly cooled, the fan on the card will run at a lower RPM and reduce the noise coming from the fan. If you are even questioning buying this card, stop and just buy it, This is by far the best GPU you can have under $200 and can run every new generation game on medium to high settings effortlessly. It is great to know that EVGA and NVIDIA are offering great products that offer high performance at an affordable priceto gamers just starting out or even the everyday budget gamer. I bought this card to replace a GTX 550 TI 1Gig.Most people wouldn't do that as this is the replacement for that card anywaybut the performance kick (without running any benchmarks)is definitely noticeable. With an extra Gig of memory as well as the superclocking you can really tell. Verysmooth and quick a very good mid range card. The half size construction and lower power usage/requirementthan the 550 TI were nice as well.
