Quadro 600 Graphics card
By DeanR100
I use SolidWorks so I bought this card since SW recommends a Quadro graphics card. For the money it was a good choice. Things to know: Be sure you have the correct slot on your computer motherboard that will accept this card, it's a PCI-express x16 slot. The package includes an adaptor cable so if you don't have an DVI monitor and only a VGA monitor you will still be able to connect to your VGA monitor. You may need to change the mounting card bracket on the Quadro 600 depending on the size of your computer card mounting bracket slot. There are two screws on the Quadro 600 card that must be removed to change the metal mounting bracket. A small bracket is attached with the card but my computer is older and has the larger bracket so I needed to switch them. This takes a little time and you must have a very small cross head screw driver. Once this was done I was able to install the card and software. The software allows you to set-up for 32-bit or 64-bit operation. This card is quite, operation is smooth and it's much better for SW's CAD than the stock Ge-Force motherboard graphics card that came with my Athlon II X4 computer. It looks high tech and modern so it appears some thought was given to the styling and layout of this card. I would have to say based on my research it's the latest technology for this price range. This card is listed as a mid-level graphics card in some of the speed rating test but Nvidia has it listed as an entry level card at the top of their list, probably since it's the newest card in that catagory. If you need a cost-effective graphics card for CAD programs this card should work quite well. I create complicated CAD models with lots of parts and the rotation, zoom-in and out operations are smooth without any hangups which is something I couldn't say about my stock graphics card. Rendering details and colors are very realistic looking.I recommend this card for the money and if this card is any indication of the quality of the more expensive Quadro cards I could imagine how well those cards must work.

Not bad
By D. Levy
I picked this up yesterday to upgrade from ATI for 3D work. I have to say that this little card REALLY speeds up the viewport in my 3D application. It doesn't need a 2 power cables like my ATI card did, apparently only uses ~40 watts, and it's fan isn't loud so that's good. It speeds up After effects as well, so all in all, for the price at this time... you can't beat this card for personal production purposes. If you're indie.. and on a serious budget, I'd recommend it! If you read this like 3 to 6 months after it was posted, then the card will probably be outclassed by whatever else for the same price... but for now, this card is awesome.

Good Graphics, Beware Sound Headaches, Happy Ending
By David Elliott
Long a fan of Nvidia for SolidWorks I settled on the Quadro 600 graphics card for the serious workstation (Dell T5400) I bought on Ebay a year ago. I'm no expert but recommendations were for 1 Gig of video RAM versus the 128 Meg ATI FireGL I currently had - on which Pro E crawled. The price was right too as I'd always found $200 to be the sweet spot vs performance. If I had to spend $50 less (versus $250 more for the Quadro 2000) I'd get used to it.On installing the card all seemed well and peaceful. In fact a little too quiet as I eventually realized when I tried to listen to something. My PC's integrated (on the motherboard) sound was no longer functional. The plain vanilla "audio out" my speakers were plugged into had been bypassed by the new card.I should have been paying more attention because when installing drivers from the CD the default install included two seemingly irrelevant modules for hardware I didn't own: 3D video which only applied to special goggles, and high definition audio which only applied to monitors with integral speakers powered via the HDMI/DVI connection from the Quadro 600. Audio from my graphics card? It had never crossed my mind. Not wanting to install useless software I unchecked both.Upon finally realizing the problem, I studied the manuals for the Quadro 600 and my PC, found virtually nothing on the PNY website, and searched online forums - where I found fellow sufferers. It seems graphics cards with audio frequently interfere with existing PC audio. Still, no one had a problem with precisely my card or PC, so while I was receiving an education about tools like msinfo32.exe, BIOS, the Nvidia Control Panel and the Device Manager, puzzling over interrupts and memory locations, it wasn't clear I was getting any closer to a solution. Nor was it encouraging to call PNY support only to reach an answering machine - though in fairness a capable American called back about 24 hours later, pretty good for a $150 device. In the end I went to the Nvidia website and clicked on their tool to examine my PC and suggest updated drivers - which were even newer than the "newest" ones Windows installed. I even went ahead and installed the high definition audio drivers I had previously disdained. I'm not sure which helped but on again examining my BIOS (updated before I even began this project) I found I could now explicitly choose my integrated audio. [The capable PNY support person was of the opinion that it was in fact my installing the high definition audio drivers what made the Nvidia audio visible to my BIOS so I could disable it. It's not uncommon he said.]It wasn't fun, wasting probably 12 hours in all, but was fairly simple in the end. With updated drivers the computer fixed itself. A good thing because the only ideas I had left involved spending more money - and with no guarantees of success at that. The moral of the story? The Nvidia Quadro 600 offers value consistent with its brethren, but is not without it's tech wild west risks. Beware of marketers with tall tales. For instance, gaming cards - which this is not, though it is descended from them - are not fit for CAD. And note how your audio is configured before installing.Until and unless civilization ever reaches these parts, it's proceed with caution, a step at a time, and keep your drivers current.
