Upgraded from Radeon 5870 to 7870 and 3DMark 2011 scores are as follows:- AMD Radeon 5870 scored 4681 marks.- MSI Radeon 7870 scored 6713 marks. In both cases neither cards were not overclocked manually and system is Intel Core I2500k at 4.2ghz with 4GB of RAM. Motherboard P67A-GD55.Been using MSI products for many years without a single DOA or missing parts. As far as the MSI Radeon 7870 design - cooling at least - differs from the AMD reference design. This design change by MSI however provides the card with increased clock rates of 1050 MHz GPU and 1200 MHz memory. Operating temperatures are also indicated to below the reference design - unfortunately I have no simple way to verify this. Several online reviews cover the thermals in more detail.Installation was relatively simple and I was pleased to see the 7870 was about an inch shorter in length to the 5870 I had removed. Caution would be to make sure the two large cooler fans are not obstructed by cabling. I did have to move the Soundblaster Xfi PC-E to a different slot (on top of the 7870 instead of underneath) since the Soundblaster obstructed one of the fans completely.Driver install was not as simple - Running Windows 7 x64 ultimate and I removed the ATI/AMD drivers before installing the new 7870 - obviously with 5870 still in place. Installing the new 7870 and powering on I was not able to install the latest AMD/ATI drivers - 12.2. Machine would reboot post install but device manager still reflected "Generic Display Driver". Ultimately I used the install CD/DVD that shipped with the 7870 and then was able to install the card. I promptly reinstalled the latest 12.2 from AMD's site directly with no issues. Usually I would recommend if time permits to reformat/reinstall the OS between ANY new hardware. I should have heeded my own advice. Currently using AMD 12.3 reference drivers with no issues. As far as "real word" usage I am now able to run BF3 with maximum settings at 1920x1200 with no notable lag. With the 5870 there was notable lag with all options enabled to the "MAX".

I got a refurbrished model under $200. Upgraded from SAPPHIRE Radeon 5830 to 7870. I get a 7.9 score in Windows 7 performance index, the old card was 7.2... It is good for gaming/ online gaming at Counter Strick Source (around 297.50 FPS)is overkill, but my product was defected. There is an invisible laggy line in the middle of my screen that does not move in sequence with the rest of the screen. Don't use the driver disk that come with box and delele the old graphic driver in your PC, you should reinstalled the latest 12.2 from Graphics Drivers & Software web site that will fix the problem. The fans are pretty quiet and not run hot. The graphics color is fine, but on my opinion it is not as sharp than my old card. Don't try to overclock this, it will be causes system lockups that require a power down to reset the system even was online. Time of occurrence is random from 20mins to 3 hours. I would not recommend this to a friend if the price above $200...
