I got this card for 2 reasons...1, I was sick of dying in Skyrim due to frame drops, and 2, I do video work on a machinima ("Kane's Mind"). It is kind of a steep price tag, but...what you get is a lot of bang for your buck.It is NOT ATI's top-of-the-line top-of-the-line...that would run a WAY higher price tag for what THAT delivers. However, for what you pay, you get:-A solid piece of hardware. AMD makes some good hardware, and the ATI Radeon graphics cards are on par with NVidia.-Great cooling assembly. GPU's are running hot, and the Cyclone arrangement puts the hot parts in contact with the heatsink.-Utility. Graphic designers will like this because you can two displays from the same source.-Expandability. Just pair it up with another graphics card using the ATI crossfire technology. This card even comes with the ribbon cable to make it happen. You'll get your money's worth, and even when the warranty expires and the tech trend goes up, you'll be able to:-overclock. ATI Afterburner software comes with the card. I leave it at default settings, but if I need to give the card a kick, I can do so...and make sure I don't overheat or overwork the hardware. The software shows it in realtime.-liquid cool. Koolance makes a waterblock that fits this hardware arrangement perfectly, and liquid coolers will draw off WAY more heat than the onboard air cooler.

5Very impressive
By R. Barrett
I just got into PC gaming because I decided I wanted to play Star Wars: The Old Republic. I've played a few games in the past like Diablo 2 but never did WoW. I'm an Xbox guy, but decided I wanted to do something different. My Dell XPS 420 was fairly stock: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33 ghz CPU with a ATI HD3400 GPU. The game was unplayable. It was super choppy, the movement was odd and I kept dying because I couldn't aim. Even at the lowest settings the game hurt my eyes and was no fun.So I upgraded.Read a few reviews and found the MSI R6850 to be in the sweet spot for price and performance. I don't need something crazy, but didn't want low-end. The 6850 gets glowing reviews with very few criticism and it seems like a great choice for me since it's built-in cooling system appears sufficient enough to not warrant external cooling.I bought the unit and a Corsair TX650 PSU to power it. Within 2 hours (including a dinner break) I had both pieces installed. It was the first time I'd ever installed a PSU or a graphics card but it was VERY easy. Basically unplug, unscrew, remove. Insert, screw, plug in. (That sounds very dirty. Speaking of dirty, it gave me the opportunity to remove years of dust from my case.)Installing the drivers was a bit challenging - the software worked funny. Took me a little while to figure it out but I eventually got the drivers and Afterburner installed. I decided to leave the stock settings since I don't know what I'm doing.Fired up SWTOR again and was amazed and how much more fluid everything was. Played it for a couple hours and it was an entirely different experience. I was getting rates of 50-57 FPS. Very little flicker in even the most intense movie scenes. I chatted with a few people in the game who had different cards and were getting lower FPS rates. The guys with the more expensive cards weren't getting anything significantly better.Turned the game off and tried some videos. Youtube has Party Anthem in 1080 so I tried it and it was an amazing picture. The unit itself is probably quieter, but honestly after cleaning out the case and removing all the dust everything was running quieter. For about $200, I was able to get a new GPU and PSU that turned by XPS 420 into a serious gaming machine. See you on the battle field!

4as expected
By Stefan
I bought this as a replacement for my Radeon HD 4850 512 MB that died of overheating after three years of use at temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius, so I specifically chose this model with the Cyclone cooler; I'm very happy with the cooler, it's always quieter than the box cooler of my Core 2 Quad Q6600, and the GPU never surpasses 70 C, and only rarely exceeds 60 C. I'm also happy with the performance, it's about the same as I expected, twice better than the 4850. The memory speed on this one is incredible, and power consumption is only marginally higher than on the 4850; this is currently the fastest card to only require a single 6-pin power connector, much faster than the average 6850, and, according to a test at tom's hardware, the second most effective board (performance/power consumption) out there now.So this is generally magnificent, though I wouldn't recommend buying it right now, when the HD 7000 series are just about to be out, much faster and more efficient (although probably also more expensive).I also have a problem, there seem to be strange artifacts in some very specific areas - whenever something is very dark, no matter whether in games or in Aero (Vista and 7's GUI), white or yellow triangles randomly appear over it, more in less demanding applications, less in 'heavier' ones. I hope this is some sort of driver problem and gets fixed soon, but it might be a problem with my cheap low-quality power supply (though I've never had any problems before), or, worst of all, a hardware defect in the board; and I couldn't even return it now, since I'm no longer in the USA and won't be returning for at least half a year.
