I wanted to upgrade my video card from a 4770 to something current in order to play newer games better. I was originally gonna buy a 7850 but I thought it was worth to pay the difference to get something even faster.At first I was hesitant because I couldn't upgrade all the components (I'm still running a Phenom 9550 with 8 gb DDR2) and I wasn't sure if I would be able to see an improvement at all. To my surprise, eventhough I'm not experiencing the full potential of this card, the computer does perform better.I can get 30 fps on BF3 and Sleeping dogs in ultra quality.There were some difficulties though:- The card is HUGE! It's way bigger than the 4770. I wasn't able to install it on my coolermaster case because the hdd cages got caught in the way. So I went to the store and bought a Phantom case (unexpected expense but oh well). Now it fits great.- I'm using an older gygabyte motherboard and this card rests directly on top of the SATA ports. The Mobo comes with 5 SATA ports and the card actually covers all of them. I had to unplug most of my drives and using a couple of T SATA cables that I had laying around even with that I can see that there is tension because of the card sitting right on top of it.- Because of the Mobo layout I had to remove my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum card as it would sit directly in front of the card's fans. Not that big of a deal given that I how play on my TV connected through a HDMI cable to my home theater receiver.That said the card's cooling is truly silent. I played for hours and the card would get to 63 - 64 C which would make the fans go to about 30% and still couldn't hear a thing. At idle the card would comfortably sit at around 25 C.I tried manually increasing the fan speed and at 100% it is pretty loud. Louder than any other component I heard before.One more note: I'm using a 500W Thermaltake PSU and it seems to be enough to drive the card.In short:- Great performance- Great thermal management- Good price (specially with the games)- Beware of the size of this thing, it will cause some discomfort with smaller mobos and cases.
