ORIGINAL REVIEW - 12/4/2012----Our Criteria for Selection----I bought this card for my old gaming rig of yester-year whose Geforce 9800gt was dying a slow death for my wife who inherited the machine and had been using it as a multi-purpose machine. We both agreed that she does not play graphics intensive games nor does she edit videos so there was no point in getting any mid- or high-level graphics card (not that the motherboard would be able to take it either). She does photoshop a bit, watch movies via stream and from local disk, surf the web/email and use office. With that criteria in mind, we settled on a cheap sub-$50 one-notch above onboard as her replacement.----Setup----The box comes with the graphics card, the usual installation disc, a quick help card and a warranty notice stating that you must register with Galaxy in order to receive the extended warranty. Uninstallation of the old card and drivers and the installation of the new card was uneventful. I downloaded the latest driver from nvidia's homepage and did not use the enclosed disc so I do not have any comments on the disc contents. The graphics card was surprisingly tiny (being low profile) but the board itself was a lot more rigid and sturdy compared to budget boards I've come across in the past. In the past, you'd take note not to force or bend the board itself too much, not that you would on purpose. But this board felt quite thick and it would take considerable force for me to snap it by accident. Both notes don't really have any correlation to its performance but I thought I'd throw it out. Also, a DVI male/male cable was used for the connection.----Usage----The machine itself is a Q6600, 4GB ram machine loaded with vista x64 on some named SATA drive. The old 9800gt rated 5.9 for graphics and 5.9 for gaming graphics with the vista performance tool while this new gt610 card rates 4.6/5.2. Real life usage shows hesitations while streaming videos when the cursor is multitasking and that task requires additional parts of the screen to refresh. Video from local media was similar while the best was from local disk which only showed very slight hesitations when doing the same multitasks. Video was fine when things were left alone for all instances. I haven't tried any games since she has none loaded and with the indications with the video as clue, I just decided not to bother. As for any noise from the fan, it doesn't seem to be overtly loud, noticeable, but not loud.----Overall thoughts----People consider budget graphics cards to enjoy the upgraded benefits of having dedicated graphics memory over onboard shared memory on the cheap. In those regards, I believe this card somewhat succeeds although hesitation for streaming video is a bit... really?? from streaming video? While the above drawbacks may be a deal breaker for some, the card is a low end $39 card with an additional $10 rebate making it a $29 card. You'll need to decide if all this is worth it for you. For us, it works.(I'll put some additional updates later on, I may try the disc provided from Galaxy instead of Nvidia. I may also try HDMI instead of DVI.)

I purchased this graphics card to give my old junker computer a boost as I am working on building a gaming computer. This card is running in a Dell Inspiron 531s with a 250W PSU. I have not had any problems with it running slightly under-powered. It gave graphics an appreciable boost for streaming videos and gaming. It is low-profile ready as well. A low profile bracket has to purchased separately but it is a simple process. If you are looking for a budget graphics card that has decent performance I recommend this one.

Decent card for games that don't require a high end graphics card. It allowed me to play most of the games that i wanted. Some were super laggy, but i guess that what i get for a graphics card this price.Definitely worth buying if you are looking to play normal quality games, but not worth buying if you are looking for a high end graphics card that can allow you to play the latest games.
