Good AGP card to keep an old PC going
By Los Yetis
If you want to keep an older AGP-based PC going for a little while longer, this is a good card to get. Best balance of speed (with 3ghz P4: 13493 on 3dMark03 and 3837 on 3dMark06 ... you may need the "Futuremark SystemInfo Hotfix Oct07" to get these to run, however) & power usage (the main chip hardly gets warm & fan is quiet) + card size (compared to an ATI HD3850 AGP).As long as you have a newer, more powerful ATX power supply (I have a 600-watt with the extra 6-pin connector... you may have to use the provided power adapter) this card will work fine. The display quality on an old analog VGA CRT with provided adapter looks fantastic. Crisp & sharp.Box also includes a DVI to HDMI adapter, a component video adapter, and S-video + composite video adapter. The drivers on the provided CD work OK, however it's a good idea to go to Sapphire's website to download the latest driver & AGP patch (you'll need Adobe Flash to make their site work properly). ATI Catalyst requires Microsoft's .NET bloat-ware, but what can you do.... software publishers have to keep that upgrade gravy train going. The card obviously has GPU power to spare (100's of GFLOPs), but seems crippled by the slower DDR2 128-bit RAM. And currently, I can't figure out how to offload video processing to the GPU using ATI's AVIVO (i.e. transcoding)As long as the card wasn't manufactured on the cheap (hard to tell these days), I'd say based on the low amount of heat dissipation, it should last a while and keep you fairly up to date.I'm still using Windows XP, so I can't tell you how this card will work with newer Microsoft operating systems.

Flogs the proverbial dead horse...
By Gauteng
I put this card in an aging Dell Dimension 4600. It installed easily with the only note being that the power cable installs high on the card near the output side which means that there could be tight clearance with neighboring cards for some (see the image that I have uploaded). I also upgraded the PC power supply from the original 250W to 480W to head off any possible power deficiencies. I had no driver issues using the supplied CD with a Windows XP OS and I am displaying at 1680 x 1050 on a Dell 24" widescreen LCD and graphics are excellent. HD videos from the Internet play nicely.

Added Functionality for Older Computer
By TomBob
My secondary computer is my desktop. It was built several years back and is based on an Athlon XP3200 processor. I run Windows XP (home - 32 bit). The computer is reaching its limits for 'modern' functionality but works well for storage and for office applications. With a recent monitor upgrade (24" high res), I've added extra chores related to photo and video editing and decided to upgrade my overall display capabilities with a video card with a large amount of dedicated memory. Several similar cards based on ATI Radeon chipsets are available, and I chose this one from Sapphire. Although my needs are fairly light-weight (no gaming), I do see an increase in video response after installing this card. While I've read several reviews where folks have had problems installing this card, I had no problems whatsoever. However, I followed two pieces of advice. First, documentation accompanying the card suggests the uninstallation of previous video drivers before changing cards. I highly recommend that this step be followed. Also, following advice from others who have installed this and other ATI based video cards, I retrieved the latest drivers/hotfix from Sapphire (or ATI) rather than use the CD accompanying the card. Windows opened with a generic driver, after which I installed the ATI drivers and control panel and then fine tuned the installation.Very pleased so far.
