I picked this up for an older system (Compaq Presario 5321sr, circa 2000-01) which is AGP 4X. It is hooked up to a Gateway HD Display, 22" widescreen (VGA). After installing the card I right clicked on the monitor to select the properties for my native desktop resolution which is 1680 X 1050...BUT it was not listed ...so again right click on desktop and select 'Nvidia Display>analogue display'( I should have done this first) then select 'screen resolutions and refresh rates' from the left hand flyout menu. Under ' custom resolutions and refresh rates ' click on the 'add' button and key in the native resolution of your monitor and then the proper refresh rate...make sure you take note of your current refresh rate (before installing new card )..I selected the wrong one and my Gateway monitor gave me the ' Out of frequency ' error display with nothing I could do...which meant I had to hook up another old monitor I had laying around to set it to the right refresh rate and then hook my Gateway back up. Anyways, got that done...as far as the driver that is on the disc...I thought I was doing the right thing by installing the latest drivers from nVidia...the latest drivers just didn't work right at all(code 10) and that is probably because this old system couldn't deal with it...soooo, if your system is as old as mine then stick with the drivers that are on the disc. This system originally had a 16mb video card and maybe 5-6 years ago I had updated it to a 64mb card and now I'm at 256mb card...yes, pathetic in today's standards but it seems to have beefed up my video viewing pleasure...a bit. What i really need is a new computer but oh well..it is what it is. So anyways, if you have an older system then this is by far the cheapest way to upgrade it a bit. Shipping was super fast and I got it before the expected delivery date.

Bought unit to replace a 128mb fx5700 ultra since, it said it was agp 4x compatible (best the old 2001 mobo i was refreshing will do), it has 2x's the memory of the 128mb and the drivers for the 5700 and 5500 are the same and already installed in my linux os (if u dont already have them, linux would also autodetect and let you install them, just like it did for the 5700 board). Plugged in, turned on, immediately recognized (with more detail provided than with the 5700) and can easily see the difference in both dvd play (almost perfect running 19 inch widescreen 1400 x 900 tft led through vga) and excellent flash video streaming play. Very satisfied.2001 gigabyte mobo, p4 northwood 2.4ghz single thread, 512cache/533fsb, 2gb ddr333, geforce 256mb agp 4x, 450w psu, ubuntu 11.1, flash 11, java 6, adobe reader 9, gets it all done just as well as the 2011 windows 7 laptop i'm typing from now.

The mounting bracket on the video card was causing an off-set of about 3/16th inch and prevented the board from seating in the AGP slot properly. After comparing with other, working AGP cards I opened out the mounting holes to reposition the bracket relative to the board and that resolved the problem. Once properly seated the video card is working perfectly.Since this version of video card (AGP) is going the way of the Dodo it was nice to find a working replacement for the one that finally gave up the ghost after 10 years regular use.
