Gigabyte 660 Ti Over Clock Edition 3 GB
By BACKCOUNTRY_ANGLER
Pros:1. Overclocks like no other, performance equals or surpasses most 670 GTX cards, knocks on the door of some of the GTX 680 reference cards when OC'ed properly. If you plan on over clocking a 660 Ti, this IS the one you want from a performance standpoint.2. Runs cool3. Quite as a church mouse.4. Cost vs performance ratio is unbeatable.Cons:1. Size: long, wide and heavy (see below). Hogs (3) PCI slots; note, this card is billed as a (2) slot card. It simply is not. The fan shroud protrudes just enough to make the adjacent (3rd) slot unusable. Most will find this to be a problem if you decide to SLI on a standard ATX board or have other items installed in your PCI array.2. Heavy: card sags slightly when installed and will only get worse with time. This may be a recipe for some serious performance and durability issues down the road, time will tell. The card may be subject to failure due to micro stress fractures on the PCB. Buy the maximum extended warranty if one is offered.3. Cosmetics: (IMO) Open design, this thing is not a beauty queen. When installed, the viewable edge is a confused mess of different colors, aluminum fins, pipes and capacitors.4. Open design: Trade off, card runs ridiculously cool, it's the key to its performance (not a con), but ejects copious amounts of hot air back into your case that your trying to get rid of.5. The card ejects a huge volume (3 fans) of hot air in the WRONG direction of my current push/pull cooling configuration. (I run a Corsair Obsidian case) This is something I failed to consider when I purchased this design (open) of a card. A work around is presently being developed.6. It's Blue (nitpicking) could be problematic for many, but if you're big and ugly you want to hide. Black would have been much better choice, would have blended in with my mobo.In time the 660 Ti will make the 670 obsolete due to the market position it has now occupied. I'm not really sure what Nvidia was trying to accomplish when they released 660Ti. From a performance standpoint it directly completes with the 670 at a substantially lower price point. Would it have made more sense to just to lower the price of the 670 to make it affordable to the mid range market Maybe..............?Some would say that (Nvidia) needed a seemingly new card/chipset available for the past Christmas buying season and had nothing in the hopper ready to go.The solution? Tweak, re-name an existing product, the (670).Nvidia simply took there existing GTX 670 chipset and made one tweak, they DISABLED (1) of the MIC's on the 670 's board. A reduction from 256 bit to 192 bit and behold, the 660Ti was born just in time for the folks like gigabyte and others to get there 660Ti's to market in time for holiday buying season..Conclusion: As stated from a cost/performance standpoint this card is unbeatable. The over clocking capabilities, cooling and addition of the 3GB of memory more than off sets the reduction of bit rate from 256 to 192 from the parent 670 chip set.(1) star was deducted due to cosmetic, (sag & appearance) design issues and quality concerns. Also the open design can be a challenge from a case cooling standpoint.I have not had ANY problems with the card to date and the performance has been just awesome. ANY game can be played in 1920x1080 on a 27" monitor with settings maxed out and it will handle most games in 2560 x 1440 as long as the settings are set to a reasonable level. Also, the card produces a stunning image on my panny 55" plasma. The extra (1) GB of memory is not a gimmick; it really makes a difference when running these large displays. For 1920x1080 gaming, it's all you will ever need. If you seek a (1) card solution that will do it all (gaming, design etc) in 2560 x 1440 environment, buy a 680 GTX OC edition or better yet, SLI (2) 660 Ti's. Now that would be the bees knees and very cost effective as well.

If it works, it works well
By J. Bentz
The first one of these that I bought was defective. I spent a frustrating amount of time trying to troubleshoot the card before finally sending it back to Amazon for a replacement (which was VERY painless!). The replacement card works great. I haven't played too many games with it, but so far it has handled everything on the highest settings beautifully. At this price point, I believe this card performs better than anything else out there. As for looks, I think the open design is great. I like seeing the "guts" of a computer, so I appreciate that this card isn't enclosed in plastic. The fans are very quiet, and temperatures seem to stay low. Overall, a very good card for the money.
