***Issues (04/2/2012)*** I just wanted to provide a disclaimer that others have cards that are doing great, but I've had 3 of these and 3 of 3 have been bad cards. I ordered 2 cards right when they came out and got some from the first batch from Newegg. Then I ordered here after those cards had arrived DOA. The one I got from Amazon just went bad after 2 weeks of use. If you get a working card just make sure that you hang onto all the parts and packaging so that you can return it if you need to within the first 30 days. I'm sure others have cards that aren't bad I'm just surprised that I've had 3 of 3 bad cards. I must have gotten part of the first batch that had a manufacture fault/defect. I've decided to stick with my HD 6850 until there are some GTX 680's with 4GB of VRAM available and then I'll give them a try in SLI.***********************************************************************************************************I am an avid gamer and just recently decided to start using a 2560 x 1440 monitor. I had been gaming at 1920 x 1080 for some time, but wanted the higher resolution. Going from FHD (1920x1080) to WQHD (2560x1440) is a very big step up in resolution, especially if you want to play with the settings all the way up on some of the newest DX11 games. I knew I'd need something that could handle that jump. I've also considered trying eyefinity 2.0 because they've made some great improvements like being able to use custom resolutions all the way up to 16k x 16k, as well as support for 5x1L and 5X1P, which is insane. With 3GB of VRAM as a buffer this card can handle higher resolutions with ease.I play a wide variety of games, ranging from FPS to RPGs to RTS games. The games I've been playing since installing this card are: The Witcher 2 (more taxing than BF3), SC2, Crysis 2 (with all the DX11 and Highres texture packs installed), ME3, BF3, Skyrim (Moded), and a few others. The only game of these that it struggles with is The Witcher 2, if I turn Ubersampling off it handles the game like a champ, but still with lower FPS than I'd prefer.***NVIDIA vs AMD Comparison:I am very surprised by the new Kepler based NVIDIA cards because they do so well with such a low TPD. Traditionally the NVIDIA cards are power hogs, but they have really improved with the new architecture they are using. If you think you'll need a more powerful power supply to run the HD 7970 then the GTX 680 is probably a better option for you, especially since it edges above the HD7970 at stock clocks in the majority of benchmarks. If you plan to overclock then HD 7970 could beat the GTX 680 overall, but at the cost of a much higher power draw. Another thing to consider is what resolution you'll be playing at. If it's above 1920x1080 then there is a good chance that you'll benefit from more than 2GB VRAM. If you will be using a multimonitor setup then you'll want at least 3GB of VRAM. I am very pleased to see the competition so tight for both companies. Both cards are a great option for any enthusiast. I wold have gladly paid $550 for a 3GB GTX 680 at launch or even $600 for a 4GB GTX 680. Hopefully the price drops on the HD7970s to better compete with the GTX 680s and they bring some non-reference GTX 680s to market soon with over 2GB of VRAM. like the EVGA GTX 680 FTW or Classified.***Drivers: I was previously using the ASUS EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2 - AMD Radeon HD 6850 - GDDR5 1 GB Video Card which has done well. All I did was update to the newest Catalyst Software Suite 12.2 while still using my HD6850 and since the drivers for the 7000 series cards are already part of the install I just swapped cards out. I have had one crash on Crysis 2, but nothing else has happened for 1 week of gaming 5 hours a day. I'm sure that they will improve performance on many games with future updates to drivers. Things could be optimized, and they'll get there but it will happen in typical AMD style...which is slow and steady.***Overclocking: I've been able to get mine to a stable 1200MHz Core Clock and 1700MHz Memory Clock (6800MHz), but only with older drivers. The newer drivers aren't stable for me, even the ones released yesterday (03/28/2012), this in great part could be due to my system configuration. I've been using the good old CCC 8.9.21.2 RC11 drivers. I've been able to reach 1125MHz/1575MHz (6300MHz) like other reviewers have with no increase to voltage whatsoever. GPU tweak is very limiting when it comes to Overvolting. If you truly want to overclock this card then you'll want to hotwire it to your an Asus GPU Hotwire capable motherboard. Even MSI afterburner lets you raise the Voltage higher than GPU tweak does, but it's still very minimal.***Conclusion: This is a great card that performs well at a factory overclock that's 75MHz above the Stock Core Clock. It will play anything you throw at it on max settings. The only game I've been able to make this thing choke on is The Witcher 2. I'm actually taking 1 star off my initial review because of a few issues that have made owning this card a huge hassel. I still get a good amount of graphical artifacts during gaming. The drivers have been pretty bad overall, bad enough that I am considering getting a GTX 680 when EVGA releases their models with 4GB or VRAM. On top of that there's been a pretty high failure rate with this specific model. Some people get an amazing card and others get a DOA. The HD7970 in general is a fantastic overclocker and performs well under most circumstances. I am sure that drivers will mature. The issues that Asus has with this model will be ironed out if they haven't been already. I'm sure if you get a card that isn't DOA you'll love it!

+ A very good video card that alows you to play any game of the moment. HD 7970 Direct CU has the best cooling sistem from the 7970 series and you can really overclock it in a safe manner. I have bought it after reading some of the asus video card reviews.- Expensive

I ordered this card on February 16th and it shipped on March 19th. This is the longest I waited for a product, but it was worth it. Got it for the $579,- price, I'd rather wait than pay more for it. I upgraded from a ASUS HD 5870 v2 to the ASUS HD 7970 DC II and I really notice the difference.The main reason I got this card was Eyefinity over 3 monitors with full display ports, lower noise and lower temperature. Factory overclock is fine because those people know what they are doing and I don't. When I overclock myself I get noise/temperature and stability issues, I don't want to waste my time getting everything just right. Eyefinity works on the 5870, but it's just not powerful enough to be a consistent performance.Eyefinity runs idle @ 400 MHz on the 5870 and 500 MHZ on the 7970. On a 1 monitor system these cards would idle a lot lower clock, something around 157 MHz for the 5870, which would be reflected in lower idle temperature.With the ASUS HD 5870, single monitor idles @ 42, small load 55C (web, youtube), gaming load 70C.With the ASUS HD 5870, Eyefinity idles @ 60C, small load 60C (web, youtube), gaming load 72C.With the ASUS HD 7970, Eyefinity idles @ 40C (wow), small load 50C (web, youtube), gaming load 60C (wow).The HD 7970 is also much quieter than the old HD 5870, even at load my other system fans are louder.This is also apparent at startup, where the 5870 is very audible and the 7970 is not.The HD 7970 is a full 100% faster than the 5870, with lower noise and temperatures, which makes this a 5 star product in my book.
