easy to install but not a very sensitive tuner section

I ordered this hoping to add 2 channels of ATSC tuning to my existing Media Center system, which already has one Silicon Dust Homerun HD dual network tuner. Following the instructions, it installed without problem (windows 7 home premium running on a cheap but late-model Acer desktop). I have an amplified omni-directional "HD" antenna at the highest point in my attic (yes, inside). The HD Homerun picks up all channels in my area except CBS. The WinTV card only found one channel (NBC), and that one comes in fine. The HD Homerun still gets all except CBS, even with a simple splitter splitting the antenna's output to both the WinTV card and the HD Homerun. My Conclusion: the winTV card is fine if you have a strong signal in your area, but the HD Homerun is more sensitive.UPDATED 2/20/2013 Found out that 2 of my channels (ones I was having trouble with) are actually in the High-VHF range (7 and 13), not UHF, and the amplified antenna I bought is strictly for UHF. I added a VHF antenna and a $5 combiner from Radio shack, and all tuners work fine now. Free TV is great. Buy a huge hard drive or two!

Excellent performance for enthusiasts on a budget (Read on)

This card is a beauty at the price I paid for it, 199.00 USD - I remember buying an 8800 GT for $250 back in 2007, so this price was excellent for me.I had multiple factors to consider when purchasing this card; I had a roughly set-in-stone budget of $200, I have a knock-off brand PSU rated at 600 watts, and on top of this the 7850 is slightly smaller than the 7870's I was looking at, which was a consideration as I have limited space for upgrades in my case.The performance jump from my 6670 1 gb card which came with my pc to the 7850 2gb is without a doubt noticeable. I can max out just about everything with consistent 30+ frames per second, but as my cousin pointed out to me, in certain games such as mmos, why have the rendering distance set to max when the game is filled with hills and trees blocking your view?Lowering rendering distance obviously improves the performance of the card, but it can handle anything I've thrown at it with no issues. It's a matter of wanting 30 frames per second versus closer to the typical framerate of most monitors, which is 60 frames per second. Please note on most games I DO get closer to 60 fps.One thing to note with this card is that it is extremely quiet and mysteriously with some games when I set some of the higher end eye candy settings lower, the games look better and it performs better. Take The Secret World - it can run the game with everything maxed at 30-35 fps, but going to advanced settings and performing a few tweaks yields 50-60 fps and I'm not kidding, the game looks better with certain settings lowered.I'm not going to lie, the card isn't the absolute best if money is no issue, so if you can run and pay for a 7870 or higher, do it - but for someone on a budget like I was, especially someone with a 500watt to 600watt PSU, this is your card.You may want to shop around since this card comes with free games on other retail sites but not on Amazon.com - and the promotion department would not match the promos offered by other sites.Here are my specs:Quad core 3.4 ghz Phenom II 965 Black Edition8 GB Corsair 1600 DDR3 RAM600 Watt XtremeGear PSU (told you it was a cheap one ;) )1tb Hitachi 7,200 RPM HDDWindows 7 Home Premium x64-- Don't let my comments discourage you from this card. This card still rates at 7.9 on Windows 7's performance index, and is well worth the $200 asking price considering for the same performance from Nvidia you're looking at $250-$300 minimum unless you get a used card. I have no regrets getting this baby and I recommend it 100% but felt that I would be lying if I told you it can max everything at a solid 60fps. MOST games it runs maxed at 60fps on my rig, and most is good enough for me until I build a new system in 2-4 years. I LOVE THIS CARD.Just make sure you install HIS' drivers from their website if you do get this card. AMD is not known for bugless drivers and HIS fine-tune them to optimize the cards to perform better.

I can't believe the cr*p ratings people give products simply because they have no idea what they are doing or how to use the product they purchased. I did not let the previous 1-star rating affect my decision to buy this card and I hope you will not either!I am connecting this card to a 1080p capable television (Sony KDL-40XBR6) which was manufactured in 2008, as my computer monitor. I have had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS with this card. I am giving it 5-stars because the card does exactly what it is supposed to and does so without any issues, and an excellent value at that.Physically, installation was a challenge routing wires around and over this beast. You must acknowledge the warnings when I say beast. According to the box allow 7.87" x 12.6" for installation space. When you open the box, the size of this card is breathtaking--especially for me since this is my first card on the higher end of the value range. Measure your case BEFORE you buy or you will be in for a world of stress. Especially ensure your cables are long enough to go around if they have to be stretched over or around and that drives or chassis parts will not contact this card after installation. If you want a quieter cooler rig, then this card will not disappoint.I only use this card for video, and web surfing--no gaming, but I am more than sure it is quite capable. The card also requires an extra 6-pin power (adapter included) to power it so please be sure you have a powerful enough power supply! The heat sink is so cool to the touch even at an ambient room-temp of 75F. The copper pipes faintly feel warm after running for several hours and even having FOUR 1080p videos scaled and simultaneously playing on my screen with no shutter or lag whatsoever.I am so happy with my video card and if you are even considering this card, then you will not be disappointed either.Some notes on installation: I was upgrading from an ASUS HD4350 to this card to be ready for a descent experience when upgrading to Windows 8. I installed this card under a 32-bit Vista OS. On an alternate drive (SSD) I have the preview version of 64-bit Windows 8 and I have been switching between drives when I want to experiment or I need to work/play. I have had ZERO issues under either environment. In case you are wondering on the performance index under Vista I attain a 5.9 out of a possible 5.9. Under Windows 8 I attain a 7.3 out of a possible 9.9 which is truly respectable with respect to the value of this card. My old HD4350 only attained a 3.2 under Windows 8 for good reason--there are no supported Windows 8 drivers for the 4000 series--and there will not be according to a response I got from AMD.This is how I suggest you move from your old card to this one if you buy it and you will have minimal issues (this is how I installed mine):1. download current drivers for your new video card for your current OS from the AMD website and save to your desktop2. remove software under 'programs and features'-- Catalyst center or software driving your current card (may force restart at this point)3. uninstall drivers for your current video card in the device manager; if the screen stays blank, that is fine just move to next step4. do not restart but rather shutdown PC; you don't want your video card reinstalled after startup5. swap/install your video card6. reconnect and power-up -- windows generic drivers will get you going until you install the new catalyst software previously downloaded on your desktop7. be amazed (if you are upgrading like me)Notice I opt to not use the software that is boxed with the card. I use AMD's software. Two reasons for this: 1)the software I downloaded is the most absolute current version driver; 2)AMD's Catalyst gives me all the control I will ever need over my card (including overclocking).Hope this review helps. And if you want to see the true satsifaction rating of this card over a greater population, checkout that new egg website.

this card got a bad wrap

i am gamer,and the card performs pretty good with high graphics games it demands on the game it struggles like a actively cool fan video card does on the new batman games,and some heavy graphics games other wise its pretty good for the price,and no fan burnout ever. but its performance can be over clocked with asus smart doctor,and i just replaced it from my asus nvdia gf gt440 oc,and surprising enough it this card is better. if you put it on hyperdrive 3d mode it work really good. this is not for everyone, and it does disperse the heat pretty good considering its a once again passive video card, but it is very big,and i have a full tower thats has pretty good ventilating.it is big so make sure you have the room graphics are crisp decent frame rate. if you have more blow clean your pc,and fans before installing it,and your pc inside temp would good for it. i am amazed that a passive cooled video card with default 850 core performs so good,the only negative for some is that you need a big case for this monster. other wise its better then people think,and asus is a good video card company.i only rate this 4 cause nothings perfect. so its beauty is is in the eyes of the beholder i give a thumbs up.

Some driver issues

I have had to jump through some hoops every time I need to update the drivers. The Catalyst control center updates seem to cause me to suffer a BSOD with a STOP code 50 whenever I launch a graphics-intensive program. Verified that it was the GPU by switching to the motherboard integrated chipset. Annoying workaround: Download new driver .exe file. Use the Device manager in Windows to remove the existing drivers completely. reboot. Install .exe file. Reboot. No more BSOD on game launches, etc. My MoBo is ASUS and my processor is AMD, so I would have expected better interaction when everything is designed by just the two manufacturers.It's not all bad though. Metro 2033 looks amazing at full resolution and high detail. Fallout: New Vegas and Oblivion likewise are greatly improved. I just expected a bit more. I haven't had any temperature issues with the fanless system. My case is very well ventilated, so this card is just fine for heat dissipation as is. It can't seem run at 1280x1024 with Borderlands 2, but I can step down the resolution and crank up just about every other graphics option to high.I haven't dabbled with my Linux partition on this computer yet, so no reports on Linux compatibility.

A 10 Thousand Pound Gorilla In an Otherwise Competing Field of Weaker Offerings.

Realizing the full potential of this Workstation Graphics Ninja requires PCI Express 3.0 Support. The card runs quietly and noticeably cooler than its predecessors. The Catalyst Pro drivers seem solid for Windows 7 64 bit and equally stable when used in Windows 8 64 bit Pro using the latest Microsoft certified driver. An ISV certified version has not yet been released as of the date of this review.Photoview 360 and Realview benefit from the computing capabilities this card provides reducing processing time requirements for these kinds of operations. For example in current release Solidworks suites when rendering using all features enabled, such as ambient occlusion, HDR file formats, caustics, higher order antialiasing etc. at 2540x1440 resolutions. Since the card only requires one 6-pin power connector, Crossfire configurations are easier to achieve with lower power requirements. Multi monitor scalability is generally also the market leading solution.Performance is substantially enhanced when compared to using a similar level "gaming-oriented card model." in 3D modeling CAD applications and may be sufficient for most, instead of current Nvidia SLI solutions employing multiple Quadro 2000 cards (replacing as many as three of certain models, singularly offering bandwidth up to 154 GB/s). Work in Photoshop using multitudes of filters is produced with stunning visual results. Handles everything I throw at it so far

This card works like a champ. I had no problem installing it or using it. It does not seem to kick out much heat compared to other graphic cards which indicates it is efficient. The display ports are easy to deal with. If you have not dealt with display ports in the past they are no problems and there are adapter connections available with for any monitor/TV interface. Right now I have a Wacom Cintiq 21 ux with a DVI conection, a CTR with a VGA connection, and a TV with a HDMI connection connected to the card. AMD FirePro W7000 can handle all without a hiccup. It comes with two display port to DVI connectors.I plan on further reviewing this product after some time has passed with it

Card is good, shipping left a little to the imagination.

I have purchased 3 of these video cards in the last month or so, for 3 new workstations that we are putting into service. One was showing flashing pixels and needed to be replaced. The replacement went so smoothly, but my only complaint had to do with the shipping of the replaced card, it sat in the city where my office is located from Dec. 2nd to Dec. 5th when I got it, that was according to the tracking number for the shipment. This is rare for an Amazon order, they usually beat their ship dates, at least for me.

Relatively Good Card

A couple months back I got an economic, slimline desktop that's actually pretty powerful. However, it had integrated, crappy graphics and I wanted to play video games.This card uses a max of 20 watts of power and fits into a PCIe x1 slot. It gets a 4.5 for desktop graphics and 3.7 for 3d video games in the Windows Experience Index. It's got an extremely customizable NVIDIA control panel that lets you tune and tweak everything and ZOTAC Firestorm which lets you overclock with ease. It's CUDA-enabled which could be an upside for some people. (I use Flam4CUDA to render fractals myself--it's 9 times faster.)I can't play anything insanely amazing on it, but I can get 30 fps in most games with good settings. (Killing Floor, wow, Dungeon Defenders, Borderlands, Bloodline Champions, all on high) Something worthy of note is that this can't emulate good-looking gamecube/PS2/xbox games but it does very well with gba/DS/ps1/lower-end ps2-era games.If you want VGA out, you need another port higher than the card itself. (This means that if your desktop is standing up, the PCIe x1 or equivalent port needs to be at least one down from the top and the slot above it needs to be free.) Beyond that, I couldn't get it to work. You have to seat the vga port onto the card itself. For whatever reason, my pc just wouldn't use the display when it was plugged into that vga port. So, I purchased a DVI->VGA adapter for 2$ and things have worked fine since. ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R0DZXU ) I do still have troubles with my integrated graphics not being disabled during bootup, which is weird, but once booted the monitor works fine with the DVI port.In conclusion this is a really good card if you don't have much wattage to work with, need a PCIe x1 card, and would like to play some video games. However, if you have an x16 slot you'd be better off getting one of those cards. This is a higher priced, worse product *because* it's PCIe x1. x16 is simply a better deal--if you have the port.

Good way to add a third monitor

Bought in order to add a third monitor to a workstation. Adding an x1 video card usually won't disable the onboard video common to most OEM computers (as long as you don't put it in the x16 slot). The ION chipset on this card runs so cool, I haven't even heard the fan. Card also has very low power consumption, I had no problems adding it to a PC with a 250w power supply.

i bought this because my hp slimline only had one half hight pci x 1 slot to stick a vid card in , and it had an hd out put . it actually gave me less performance than my on board video . it's a miserable little card with no support from zotac who's box it came in . they don't even admit they even made it on their web site . i am un aware of any situation where i would recomend the purchase or use of this product . you can't even go full screen with video unless you like stutter veiw as though it was being sent by telegraph . pass on this un less you absolutly don't care what you are buying . fail as the kid's say . i would ask for my money back , but it's more bother than its worth .

It burns!

Well, these graphic cards came with our HP workstations purchased around a year ago. We purchased 11 workstations total and have blown through two of these cards. I'd have to assume it's from overheating. The heat sync forms a nice expansion arch when they fail, pulling itself away from the processing chip. I would go with something that has a fan.

I wish I could give it 3 and a half stars.I can't really give a full review for this card. I have not used it much. The Amazon description does not mention the card requires a 350+ watt power supply. Mine was only 315 watts (Dell t100).The card works pretty well with Linux (CentOS 6.3). Windows 7 did not have the driver already installed. Getting it up and running required going to the ATI website and downloading the driver. Not really an issue.The graphics seem okay for a low-end pcie x1 card. I never tried playing any games with it. It isn't really made for playing games.The card does get a little warm. There is no fan on this card.
